A memorial service for James William Smith will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Casino West Convention Center, 11 N. Main St. in Yerington.
Mr. Smith died Sept. 22, 2003, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. He was born July 3, 1947, in Rhinelander, Wis., to Clarence and Patricia Smith.
He graduated from Yerington High School.
Mr. Smith married Portia Aug. 12, 1967. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was discharged in 1968.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing horseshoes, fishing, camping, four-wheel riding and helping others.
Among his survivors are his wife; son, James Jr.; daughters Lottie Smith and Wendy "Jody" Travis; grandchildren Trever, Kimberly Augstine, Ashlynn Smith and Natalee Travis; brothers Don and Tom; sisters Joan McCann, Pat Smith and Jean Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
