Proscenium Players reprise "The Cemetery Club"

A decade after the Proscenium Players first presented "The Cemetery Club," Jan Meierdierck, Eloise Koenig and Jonni Moon will return in the starring roles as Jewish widows Ida, Lucille and Doris, who meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands' graves. E

Ida is sweet-tempered and ready to begin a new life. Lucille exemplifies the girl who just wants to have fun, Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife's grave. Doris and Lucille are guilt-stricken after they squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida.

Proscenium Players, Inc., opens the first production of its 38th season with Ivan Menchell's comedy It will be performed at the Brewery Arts Center theater, 449 W. King St., on Friday, Saturday, Oct. 3, 4, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m.

Carla J. Wilson returns to direct the "The Cemetery Club," which also stars Byron Morgan as Sam and Kate Hinton as Mildred.

There will be a champagne and sparkling cider reception after Friday's performance for the audience to greet the cast.

"The Cemetery Club" opened in 1990. The movie starring Ellen Burstyn, Olympia Dukakis and Diane Ladd came out in 1993.

There are no late admissions. General admission is $12; seniors, students, PPI and BAC members are $10. Reservations and tickets are available by calling the BAC at 883-1976.
