A USO show will give a 1940s flavor to the Yerington Airshow and Fly-in this weekend at the Yerington Municipal Airport.
Six performers will be choreographed by Charlotte Soukup for an act during intermission featuring members of the Children's Repertory Theatre of Carson City.
The Community USO Swing Dance starts at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Mile High Jazz Band. Sheryl Adams will sing.
Soukup's "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" features Edwin Bruno in the title role, with dancers Caydence Giurlani, Cane Holmes, Mary Dillon, Angelina Sunshine and Rachel Anderson in back-up roles.
The airshow will feature Top Gun pilots from Fallon Naval Air Station performing in the FA/18 Hornet and the Navy version of the F-16 fighting Falcon. The aircraft are used in Top Gun pilot training at the Navy Air Station in Fallon.
A vintage Ford tri-motor will be available for rides, and at 4 p.m., a tri-tip barbecue begins, according to organizer Pat Fietta.
Old movies will be shown in the hangar during the day, and Fietta said they will have Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers playing in the background.
At 76, Soukup is familiar with the swing scene. She started dancing when she was 7 and started touring with Larry Crosby in 1942, going from base to base entertaining the troops.
"I was a principal dancer," the 33-year Carson City resident said of her days during World War II.
She married for the first time when she was 17. In 1954, Soukup injured her knee while running to a show.
Soukup established the Repertory Theatre to encourage the arts in Carson City.
"We need to have a place where children can learn all the arts," she said. "It must be well done, and the people should be top drawer."
The USO show is sponsored by the Jeanne Dini Cultural Center.
