William 'Bill' Harrol Brown

A funeral for William "Bill" Harrol Brown, 77, a Wellington resident since 1990, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glen Abbey Mortuary in Bonita, Calif.

Viewing will be held there at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Mr. Brown died March 31, 2004, in Wellington. He was born July 22, 1926, in Wagner, Okla., to John Brown and Minnie Stacy Brown Mahan. He was preceded in death by his brother Troy Brown, an infant brother and sister-in-law Ida Brown.

As a child, he lived in Oklahoma and Arizona. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years and married Iva Bee Williams in 1953, to whom he was married 53 years.

Mr. Brown coached Little League baseball for 12 years in El Cajon, Calif. He loved to fish, camp, hunt and repair vehicles of all kinds. He was a good husband, father and friend.

He completed the eighth grade, then as an adult took several classes through his employer, Convair-General Dynamics.

Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947.

Prior to living in Wellington, he lived in El Cajon and San Diego.

Mr. Brown worked at Convair-General Dynamics for 37 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a life member of the VFW, Convair Alumni Association, Thousand Trails and Pacific Coast Chapter 37th Division Veterans Association.

He was a Protestant.

Among his survivors are his wife, Iva Bee Brown of Wellington; daughters Georgena Tortora and Susan Wohn; sons Edward Brown and John Brown; sister, Louise Hernandez; brother James Mahan; mother-in-law, Opal Loeffler; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place at Glen Abbey Memorial Park.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville is in charge of arrangements.
