High winds close highways

Western Nevada motorists are facing high winds and blowing dust for their commute this afternoon.

According to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, high-profile vehicles such as trucks and recreational vehicles should avoid traveling Highway 395 between Washoe Valley and Carson City due to high crosswinds.

Highway 447 is temporarily closed between Nixon and Wadsworth due to blowing dust. Highway 50 was closed earlier Wednesday after dust obscurred visibility through Silver Springs and Fallon.

About 2,000 residents in Mark Twain and Stagecoach lost electricity briefly due to the wind.
