Teacher charged in lewdness complaint

A Carson Middle School teacher will appear in Carson City Justice Court on Aug. 24 to be arraigned on suspicion of open and gross lewdness and indecent exposure.

Scott Frank, 26, a history teacher, was arrested at 2:55 p.m. Sunday after a neighbor alleged she witnessed him fondling himself while watching his elderly neighbor, then allegedly saw him approach the woman and ask for something while he was exposed. The victim also told police when Frank spoke to her, he had no pants on and he was exposed.

Frank said he didn't think anyone could see him in his back yard as he sunbathed nude, according to the arrest report.

He has worked at Carson Middle School for the last two years and is currently employed by the district, said Richard Stokes, associate superintendent of human resources for the Carson City School District.

"We are looking into this," he said.

Stokes declined to comment on whether Frank would be allowed to teach pending adjudication of the charges.

According to Nevada law, a person convicted of open and gross lewdness or indecent exposure is required to register with authorities as a sexual offender and could be precluded from dealing with children.
