Some roads reopen after Waterfall fire

Voltaire Loop and Kings Canyon Road will reopen today after being closed because of the Waterfall fire.

The roads closed since the 8,723-acre wildland fire broke out July 14 have been inspected for hazards by the U.S. Forest Service.

Visitors are asked to stay on existing roads no matter the method of travel to help reduce erosion.

The remainder of the fire area remains closed. Forest Service Law Enforcement personnel will continue patrols of the burn area to ensure the public remains out of this hazardous and fragile area.

The public is asked to stay out of Ash and Vicee canyons and all other portions of the burn area and are reminded that the upper end of Kings Canyon Road is rough, narrow and most suitable for non motorized traffic.
