Vacant Amway building in Dayton sells for $5.25 million

An 185,000-square-foot distribution center in the Dayton Industrial Park was recently purchased for $5.25 million by Bruce Industries, the chief financial officer said Monday.

Jim Bradshaw, Bruce Industries chief financial officer, said the Amway building sale closed in the first part of this month.

"We plan to use it as part of our warehousing and distribution," he said.

Bruce Industries is a corporate manufacturer headquartered in Dayton. It designs and manufactures cabin, exterior and emergency lighting; and information and exit signs for all commercial aircraft, according to its Web site.

The Amway building, 95 Air Park Vista Blvd., has been vacant for more than a year, Bradshaw said. It will be slightly remodeled and may open by early 2005. About 50 people will work there.

Ron Weisinger, Northern Nevada Development Authority executive director, said the Amway building purchase is positive for the industrial park.

"We are very pleased that Bruce Industries did buy it because everything they touch turns to gold," he said. "They are a vital and integral part of Northern Nevada, Lyon County and the Dayton area."
