Seventeen lawyers have applied for the Washoe District Court seat vacated by Jim Hardesty, and another 10 applied for the seat vacated by Charles McGee.
Four of the candidates applied for both seats including Washoe Commissioner Pete Sferrazza.
Hardesty is leaving his Washoe District post because he won a seat on the Nevada Supreme Court.
McGee announced his retirement after a tumultuous year in which he was arrested for driving under the influence then ordered to attend substance- abuse counseling.
In addition to Sferrazza, 59; Margaret Springgate Evans; Lance Van Lydegraf, 58; and Dennis Widdis, 51, are in the running for both positions.
The other candidates seeking McGee's position are Reno lawyers: Robert Bell, 53; Cassandra Campbell, 53; Carol Cooke, 54; David Hardy, 40; Myra Sheehan, 50; and Todd Torvinen, 44.
The other candidates seeking Hardesty's seat on the bench are Robert Auer, 51, Dayton; David Neidert, 43, of Carson City; Dina Salvucci, 42, Minden; and Reno lawyers Wesley Ayres, 44; Barry Breslow, 42; Cotter Conway, 38; Norman Flanigan, 51; David Hamilton, 61; MIchael Langton, 58; Robert Perry, 61; Elliot Sattler, 38; Julien Sourwine, 65; and John Springgate, 45.
The Commission on Judicial Selection invited public comments on any and all of the applicants. The commission is charged with selecting three final nominees for each position and submitting them to the governor, who will appoint both replacements.
Chief Justice Miriam Shearing of the Nevada Supreme Court chairs the commission.
