Temps predicted to rise, even with storm

Despite a storm warning through 8 tonight, area residents can expect a break from the single-digit temperatures that set records last week.

"The storm will scour out this Arctic air we've had," said meteorologist Jim Fischer, with the National Weather Service in Reno. "We should be back to temperatures around the 40s."

Fischer said today's winds would drop from Monday night, when officials expected to issue a wind advisory for winds of up to 50 mph.

"Gusts of 40 will be pretty common," he said.

Snow levels today will be at 6,000 feet. In areas above 7,000 feet, 2 feet of snow is expected.

People at around 6,200 feet, Lake Tahoe level, can expect a foot of snow.

The valley areas, around 5,000 feet, including Carson, Eagle, Washoe and Pleasant, can expect rain.

"It's a pretty wet pattern," Fischer said. "We will see at least a chance of showers through Wednesday.

"Temperatures should stay fairly mild overnight - out of the mostly teens and single digits. Lows can be expected in the mid-20s to mid-30s around the area - 10 to 20 degrees warmer than it's been."

Partly cloudy or sunny skies are expected from Wednesday through the weekend.
