Outgoing Nevada Gaming Control Board member Scott Scherer has asked Gov. Kenny Guinn to remove him from consideration for state attorney general.
Scherer, 42, said Tuesday he will join the statewide law firm Hale Lane Peek Dennison and Howard early next year. He said the move does not represent a conflict of interest, because the Reno-based firm does not currently have a gambling regulatory practice.
Scherer called his decision best for his family.
State Attorney General Brian Sandoval is expected to resign next year if he is confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a federal judge. Guinn has said he plans to appoint a Republican to fill Sandoval's unexpired term and run for attorney general in 2006.
Scherer ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for Nevada attorney general in 1998.
