Expect Carson folks to show they care in '05 as much as '04

by Kim Riggs

Welcome to 2005.

Last week, we felt some extreme weather in the Sierra. I went to Starbucks in all the cold weather to grab a cup of joe. They sell coffee harvested in Asia. If you purchase a pound, they will donate $2 per package to help those suffering after the southern Asia tsunamis.

I recently was at the movies and met a new California transplant to Carson City. She and her husband think our town is remarkable, and she said how impressed she has been with its generosity in the short time she has lived here.

The last time I heard that sentiment was at the celebration for the firemen who worked so hard on the Waterfall fire.

So many thoughtful events happen here all the time, like Carson-Tahoe Hospital donating items to help our troops overseas. Trinia Dahlin at the District Attorney's Office asked me to thank them for items for the Christmas care packages. Trinia and her group made several packages.
