Girl's hand crushed in 4WD rollover

A 12-year-old Carson City girl's hand was crushed when the vehicle she was riding in rolled over on Prison Hill Saturday afternoon.

She was riding "unseated and unrestrained" in the back of the open-top, four-wheel-drive vehicle when it rolled, pinning her hand between a roll bar and a rock, according to Carson City Sheriff's Department reports.

Her father, Charles Bailey, was attempting to drive the vehicle over a large boulder when it rolled.

He later admitted drinking alcoholic beverages just prior to the incident, according to the sheriff's department.

The injuries required hospitalization and surgery.

Bailey, a 33-year-old mechanic, was later arrested at Carson-Tahoe Hospital on suspicion of felony child abuse causing injury and booked into Carson City Jail. His bail was set at $40,000.
