Darlene M. Whitaker

A memorial service for Darlene M. Whitaker, 77, a Gardnerville resident for the past four years, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carson Valley Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mrs. Whitaker died Feb. 8, 2004, in Gardnerville. She was born Dec. 17, 1925, in East Garland, Utah, to Clifton Wesley and Vera Seager Grover.

She graduated from Bear River High School in East Garland and attended Utah State University.

She married Lowell Whitaker Dec. 30, 1946, in Logan, Utah. He died in 1999 in Santa Ana, Calif.

Mrs. Whitaker was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Among her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey L. and Marla of Gardnerville; sister, Karen Huckaby of Far West, Utah; brothers Rolland Grover of Roosevelt, Utah, Wesley Grover of Palmer, Alaska, and Leon Grover of Washington, Utah; and grandchildren Jesse, Sara, Jared and Thea Whitaker.

Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the East Garland Cemetery in East Garland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
