Fraternity house listed on historic register

The Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house near the University of Nevada, Reno, campus has been named to the National Register of Historic Places.

The house, at 205 University Terrace, is an example of Colonial revival architecture and was built in 1929. The home, built by the Delta Iota Chapter of the national ATO fraternity, was the first fraternity house built in Nevada.

"For many years, the ATO House functioned at the only university campus in Nevada. Students from throughout the state resided there and carried the affiliation with them for the rest of their lives," said Mella Harmon, architectural historian with the state's preservation office. "The lasting significance of the house is reflected in the number of prominent men throughout the state who continue to look to the ATO house as home."
