UNR aide named deputy press secretary

Gov. Kenny Guinn has named John Trent his deputy press secretary.

Trent, 41, comes from the University of Nevada, Reno, where his title was special assistant to the president for university relations. He served as editor of the "Nevada Silver & Blue" magazine and is an art instructor in the Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism. Trent holds three degrees from the University of Nevada, including undergraduate degrees in both education and journalism and a master's degree in journalism.

He will be paid $69,000 a year as Press Secretary Greg Bortolin's deputy. Bortolin is paid more than $90,000 a year.

"John will prove to be a valuable asset in our communications efforts," Guinn said.

Trent was a writer and editor for the Reno Gazette-Journal for 11 years. He was named Nevada Outstanding Young Journalist by the Nevada Press Association and was twice named Nevada sportswriter of the year.
