Herman Wesley Sayre Jr.

A funeral for Herman Wesley Sayre Jr., 73, a longtime Yerington resident, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Yerington.

Mr. Sayre died Feb. 18, 2004, in San Felipe, Mexico. He was born March 10, 1930, in Smith Valley to Herman and Emma Sayre.

He attended the University of Nevada, Reno, after which he spent four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the carrier Phillipine Sea during the Korean War.

Mr. Sayre worked in the propane business for 37 years. He was a volunteer for the Yerington Fire Department for 30 years and commander for Smith Valley VFW Post 8084. He was a member of Copper Hills and Reno Renegades Good Sams. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their fifth-wheel trailer, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Short.

Among his survivors are his wife of 50 years, Nan; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Kim of Dayton; daughters and sons-in-law Brenda and Jim Farler of Yerington, Judy and Harry Toebe of Vacaville, Calif., and Debbie and Steve Schaut of Kent, Wash.; grandchildren Adam, Matt, Lacey, Justin, Josh, Scott and Zachary; sister, Virginia Menseini; aunts Myrle Bennett and Mary Wilkerson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Yerington Volunteer Fire Department, VFW Post 8084, or a charity of choice.
