Whitewater park wins design award

Kennedy/Jenks Consultants of Reno and Las Vegas has won an Engineering Excellence honor award for its design of the Wingfield Whitewater Park for the City of Reno.

The park has 11 different whitewater features and is the largest, most sophisticated whitewater park in the Western United States, according to the American Council of Engineering Companies which sponsors the awards.

The project was recognized, in part, for improving public health and safety by removing vertical concrete walls and replacing them with rock terraced bank access, and for eliminating a water hazard and allowing passage for two protected species of migratory fish by removing a low-head dam.
