John William 'Bill' Lester

A funeral for John William "Bill" Lester, 88, a Carson City resident for the past three years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Evanston LDS Chapel in Evanston, Wyo.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston.

Mr. Lester died Jan. 3, 2004, in Carson City. He was born April 27, 1915, in Hilliard, Wyo., to James Henry and Esther Hutchinson Lester.

He married Ellen Louise Gilmore on Sept. 24, 1940, in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on Aug. 3, 1985.

Mr. Lester was a rancher. He enjoyed team pulls, auctions and refurbishing harnesses. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was preceded in death by a son, two sons-in-law, a grandson and several brothers and sisters.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Nadene of Hilliard; daughters and sons-in-law Fern and Paul Hoffman of Carson City and Dixie and Dave Harshbarger of Evanston; sisters June Pierce and LaVina Pierce and brothers Ken, Ves and Verl, all of Evanston; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
