A military helicopter that flew over Carson City on Friday morning was most likely a Naval aircraft on a routine training mission.
The SH-60 Seahawk helicopter headed southwest over town about 10 a.m. It turned west above Old Clear Creek Road and headed toward Spooner Summit.
A spokesperson for the Nevada National Guard said it wasn't theirs, but Fallon Naval Air Station claimed it.
"We've got Air Wing 14 on base and they could be out doing unit-level training hops," said Public Affairs Officer Zip Upham.
"I can't confirm that it's specifically one aircraft, but Helicopter Squadron 4 has been conducting navigation hops as part of their training while at NAS Fallon."
The Lamore, Calif.-based carrier air wing is attached to the USS John C. Stennis, a 1,092 foot-long, nuclear-powered carrier with 80 aircraft. Helicopters from the wing are flying around the region, practicing navigation and flying around mountains.
"They'll go pretty much all over Northern Nevada," Upham said.
"That kind of flight is all about navigation because they're not connected to any other aircraft. It's standard military training."
