The national Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation team will present its evaluation of burned areas from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The report will outline what needs to be done by specific land owners - private, city, state and federal. Short-term work will look at stabilizing burned slopes; long-term work will be geared more toward re-vegetation and re-seeding.
WEDNESDAY
Ed Smith, a natural resource specialist with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, and Carson City's acting fire chief Stacey Giomi will give a free "Living With Fire" workshop at 7 p.m. in the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. Elwood Miller, executive coordinator of the Nevada Fire Safe Council, will discuss resources available to communities for reducing the wildfire threat. Call Smith at 782-9960.
Aug. 11
A meeting on a Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest thinning program will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Middle School. Plans include thinning trees and removing dangerous accumulations of brush on 2,100 of the 5,500 acres between Bowers Mansion and the Mount Rose Highway.
