Alfred S. Swick

A graveside service for Alfred S. Swick, 81, a Minden resident for the past 15 years, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden with military honors.

Mr. Swick died July 24, 2004, in Minden. He was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Chicago to Alex Swick.

He was a high school graduate and attended two years of college.

Before moving to Minden, he lived in Chino, Calif. from 1952 to 1989.

Mr. Swick was a welding instructor for the California Youth Authority for 25 years.

He was a member of St. Gall Catholic Community in Minden. He was past president of the Optimist Club and a Little League coach in Chino and a volunteer for Boy Scouts Troop 201.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was involved in the invasion of Normandy.

Among his survivors are his son, John of Chino; sister, Nancy Chengary of Chicago; and grandchildren Robert Swick in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, David Swick of Ontario, Calif., and Joniene Swick of San Diego, Calif.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
