Trusty walks away from facility

A trusty with the Carson City Jail apparently walked away from the facility sometime Monday afternoon.

Police are searching for Anthony Wygant, 36, who was last seen near the Safeway grocery store about 4 p.m. by an off-duty police officer. When the officer approached, Wygant fled.

He was in custody for violating city probation, possibly on a domestic-dispute charge. He had 20 days left on the sentence, said Sgt. Dan Chaney of the Carson City Jail.

On June 8, Wygant was made a trusty. Jail trusties are free to move about the safety complex doing various tasks, such as moving furniture or cleaning the facility. They must check in at specific times. Wygant was spotted by the off-duty deputy before he was next scheduled to check in, Chaney said.

Wygant is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 215 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a black mustache.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Carson City dispatch at 887-2007.
