Watch motorcycle officers demonstrate their skills; enjoy classic cars

by Kim Riggs

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is sponsoring a fun run and Police Motor Competition Friday and Saturday.

The run is open to anyone who wants to take a motorcycle ride with local and out-of-state police officers. It will start at the Peace Officers Memorial on the Capitol Grounds and finish at Carson City's Harley-Davidson dealership.

The following day, come to Mills Parks for the Police Motor Competition. This is the first event for the public to watch motorcycle officers strut their stuff and see up close the technical skills they need to ride.

Food and drinks will be available so bring the family. To volunteer with the slow-cone patterns or technical-skills display, call Sgt. Mike Cullen.

The Carson City Library youth program has new story times and has added some programs because of great response. There are Family Story Time, Preschool Story Time and Toddler Lap Sit, which enhances adult-child interaction and gets parents and grandparents involved in reading together with the little ones.

Garth Richards' classic car collection is open to the public just one day to help benefit the Carson-Tahoe Cancer Center. Included are 1960s memorabilia and antique or classic cars.

Richards will show off 150 immaculately maintained automobiles: a rare Nash-Healey, a Muntz Jet roadster, Kaiser Darren convertible, and an off-the-assembly-line, 1950 Crosley Skorpion convertible.

Purchase your tickets early for this event presented by the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary Club.

Enrich your summer vacation with a picnic basket, bottle of wine and the annual Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor State Park. From July 15 through Aug. 22, "As You Like It" and "Much Ado About Nothing" will be presented.

The Beta Sigma Phi Club is planning an bus tour event in Apple Hill. Reservations are needed. Enjoy a beautiful day of fall colors and touring three or four of the favorite hot spots of Apple Hill. A lunch will be provided.
