Cops and bikers will join forces Friday during a poker run to kick off the Carson City Sheriff's Department's first-ever police officer motorcycle competition at Mills Park Saturday.
Signups for the poker run begins Friday at 10 a.m. at the Peace Officers Memorial on the Capitol Grounds.
The $10 entry fee is part of the winning pot and includes a barbecue, said Sgt. Mike Cullen.
The poker run is open to the public.
The poker run takes riders from Carson City to Virginia City and over the Mount Rose Highway to Lake Tahoe.
At designated spots on the route, riders will collect a playing card. The winning hand gets the pot.
The run is scheduled to end at 5 p.m. at the Harley-Davidson dealership on North Carson Street.
On Saturday, motorcycle officers from Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City and surrounding jurisdictions will compete in agility races at Mills Park beginning at 9 a.m.
Officers will maneuver their bikes through the cones and the winners will be those officers who can complete the tasks in the shortest amount of time without going out of the designated pattern.
Tuesday, six Carson City motor cops set up patterns in a back parking lot at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The time was used to practice and fine tune the distances to place the cones during Saturday's competition, Cullen said.
The public is welcomed to view the competition.
Winners will be announced during a banquet that evening.
The event is sponsored by Cycles, Carson City Harley-Davidson, Reno BMW and Casino Fandango.
