Fireworks, farmers markets and fun upcoming in July

Fireworks, farmers markets and family fun are slated for July. You have plenty of fun choices for Independence Day.

I'll be headed to Virginia City to check out the July 4 parade, which will be followed by fireworks. This is an all-day event so you can check all the great stores and fun by dropping in any time.

In Truckee, they will celebrate downtown with excitement for the whole family. The fireworks show starts at nightfall from Commons Beach.

Reno's Artown is presenting neon troutmaker Jeff Johnson of Truckee at the Record Street Café with Pop Fireworks and Neon Arts starting at dusk.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum is presenting "Ride the Rails" Sunday. Bring the children and go back in time by riding the restored trains.

The Kings Beach Arts and Crafts show is Friday through Sunday, bring the children and enjoy the assorted wares near the beach.

On Saturday, a free concert by the Minden Valley Pops Band will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Minden Park. On Sunday, catch Genoa's Mormon Station Park for Pops in the Park.

Starting this week, the Genoa Park Farmers Market will be open every Saturday. It's nice to have a market on Saturday for those people who can't get to the others on Wednesdays - in Gardnerville's Lampe Park and the Summer Farmers Market at the Pony Express Pavilion in Carson City's Mills Park.

These markets have more than just fruit and vegetables; they also offer honey, herbs, crafts, garden plants and fountains.
