Marjorie Imogene Thielke

An Internet memorial has been established for Marjorie Imogene Thielke, 77, a western Nevada resident since 1970. She died March 3, 2004 in Carson City.

Mrs. Thielke was born Jan. 31, 1927, to Benton Haynes and Pauline Ursula Trueblood Petty in Terre Haute, Ind.

She was one of five children who were separated among relatives when she was six after her father died. Her mother was an original enrollee of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. As a child, she lived with her Choctaw grandmother at her hotel in Randsburg, Calif., in the Mojave Desert and at Lee Vining among other places. She married Ray Thielke in 1946 after they met while both working for the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C.

She is preceded in death by two older brothers, Curtis and Bryan.

Mrs. Thielke graduated from high school in Fallon and was active in the civil rights movement in Washington, D.C., in the 1960s.

She worked for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Geological Survey as a cartographer.

She is survived by her former husband, Ray, of Carson City; son Wesley Thielke of Hillsborough, N.J.; daughters Evelyn Greene of Louisville, Colo., and Nola Smith of Carmichael, Calif.; grandchildren Elizabeth, Emily, David and Daniel Thielke, Adam, Cody, Michael and Lisa Greene, and Phoebe and Katherine Smith.

Cremation was at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
