A judge on Tuesday gave a Carson City man a suspended sentence after he escaped from jail in December.
Shaun Lawrence, 22, will be allowed to finish his 180-day sentence on a probation violation for possession of drug paraphernalia. An additional six-month sentence for escape will be suspended if Lawrence successfully completes a drug rehabilitation program and up to three years probation, said Deputy District Attorney Kristin Luis.
Lawrence, 22, was working in the Carson City Jail kitchen Dec. 19 when he took trash to a Dumpster and hopped a 4-foot wall facing Second Street about 6:25 a.m., said Sheriff Kenny Furlong.
He was found six hours later hiding under a bed in a Reno motel room rented by Russell Shackleford.
Charges of aiding an escape against Shackleford were dismissed, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Anne Langer, after it was determined he was unaware Lawrence was there and had rented the room for their mutual friend Barbara Hubert, 24.
Hubert was charged with aiding an escape.
The status of that case was not immediately available.
