Carson Middle School captured second-place in both the eighth and seventh grade divisions at the Tah-Neva League Zone Wrestling Championships Saturday in Yerington.

Fallon edged Carson by 12 points for the eighth grade team title, while Eagle Valley finished third during the tournament held in the Yerington high school and intermediate school gyms. Battle Mountain won the seventh grade title by 23 points over Carson, while Eagle Valley finished sixth.

From an individual standpoint, Carson returned home with three outstanding wrestler awards: Todd Banko, who lost one match all season, was honored for his effort in winning the eighth grade 90-pound division; along with seventh graders Tommy Preston and Blake Davidson. Preston and Davidson won each match by pin in their respective 105- and 125-pound weight classes.

For the Carson eighth graders: Garrett Truesdale was a champion at 140 pounds; second-place finishers included Doug Lipka (105) and A.J. Jolcover (130); third-place finishers included Kyle Machado (110), Matt Scott (115), Nathan James (120) and Curtis Kiernan (135); Matt Robinson placed fourth (105) and heavyweight Fred Mertz (fifth).

For the Carson seventh graders: Brett Valley (85) and Juan Arellano (95), a first-year wrestler, and Casey Good (100) were second-place finishers; Nick Schlager (75), Matt Parmenter (110) and Jeff Butler (135) placed third; and heavyweight Max Schadeck placed fourth.

Eagle Valley produced two champions in the eighth grade division: Kelly Manning, who defeated Jolcover in a close final, and Chris McBroom at 150 pounds.

Also for the Eagle Valley eighth graders: Brian Halverson (110) and Daniel Cunningham (160) placed second; Jory McCulley (175) placed third; Andy Hook (115), Branden Nix (125) and heavyweight David Nuebel placed fourth. In the seventh grade division: Casey Hill (110) placed second; Mike Little (145) placed third; while Sam Osheroff (90), Luke Carter (95) and Collin Grischott (135) placed fourth.
