Workshop teaches play therapy techniques

RENO - The Nevada Association for Play Therapy announces its second annual Play Therapy conference on April 24 on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno.

Internationally renowned speaker Sue Bratton, PhD, LPC, RPT-S, will lead the interactive presentation titled, "Kaleidoscope of Play Therapy: Activities for families and children of all ages."

Participants will learn to facilitate families, individuals and groups using a variety of play therapy activities based on humanistic principles.

The workshop is for anyone who works with children or families: social workers, doctors, school counselors, marriage and family therapists, teachers, nurses or parents.

Play therapy is the process in which children express themselves through activity. It is helpful for individuals in a wide range of situations, such as divorce or the death of a loved one. A child's anxiety about a traumatic event can be reduced, feelings are expressed, trust in self and others increases, and a sense of competence is enhanced.

Continuing education units (6.0) are offered for play therapists, marriage and family therapists and social workers.
