Fire closes Interstate 80

A wildfire closed both lanes of Interstate 80 today near Farad in California.

The fire was reported at about 2:51 p.m., according to a Califoria Division of Forestry spokesman.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers closed the Interstate at Gold Ranch Road just before 4 p.m., according to Scott Magruder of the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Westbound traffic was halted by California Highway Patrol troopers at Truckee, according to broadcast reports.

Motorists heading to California are advised to seek a different route.
