Robert Milton 'Bob' Jackson

A memorial service for Robert Milton "Bob" Jackson, 91, a lifetime Markleeville resident, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Turtle Rock Park.

Mr. Jackson died May 12, 2004, in Minden. He was born Sept. 21, 1912, in Sacramento to Charles and May Ann Ellis Jackson. He was the grandson of Alpine County pioneers John Robert Gills and Margaret Ann Jones. They were Diamond Valley ranchers and owners of the Alpine Hotel.

He attended San Pedreo High School and Compton Junior College.

Mr. Jackson retired in 1973 after 30 years as Alpine County Engineer. He was proud of the roads he designed including Monitor Pass, Blue Lakes Road, Mount Reba Road and Airport Road. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Rosella Mildred and granddaughter Codi Elisabeth Currence.

Among his survivors are son, John; daughters Jeanne Turnbeaugh and Judy Currence; sister, Gwen R. McGinley; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all living in the area.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
