Stacie Wilke files for Board of Education

Former Carson City School Board member Stacie Wilke filed Friday for the State Board of Education seat representing Carson City, Douglas and part of Washoe County.

She is the third candidate to file for the post. The others are incumbent Barbara Myers and former board member Dave Cook.

Wilke, who is a public relations and marketing consultant, said she believes she can add fresh perspective to the board.

"They've both served and I think it's time for somebody new," she said of her opponents.

"It seems to be a natural progression from four years on the local school board and then running for Assembly on educational issues," she said.

Wilke ran unsuccessfully two years ago for Assembly District 40. She is a Democrat.

She said the major issues before the board will center on standardized testing for students, the federal No Child Left Behind Act and the state version of that legislation.

"The state board's role is going to be pretty critical in those areas," she said.
