Man remains hospitalized after being struck by vehicle

A man struck by a vehicle as he crossed Highway 50 East near Rand Avenue remained at Washoe Medical Center on Thursday.

Dwight Peterson, 51, was hit Tuesday at 11 p.m. by a vehicle driven by Todd Allen, 31, of Las Vegas, as Peterson walked across the roadway, according to reports. Sgt. Al Alessandra of the Nevada Highway Patrol said Allen told police he "caught a glimpse of the pedestrian as he staggered from the north in the dark when he struck him."

Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong said Peterson was unconscious at the scene and was taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center.

An off-duty Carson City deputy happened upon the accident shortly after it occurred, Furlong said. Alessandra said the accident is under investigation. No citations were issued.
