Don't miss the Follies, or else ...

'Tis folly if you miss the Senior Follies this weekend.

The annual senior show, "A Song for all Seasons," will be held at the Community Center on Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. General admission is $10; $8 for seniors and children. It all goes to a good cause, "Meals on Wheels."

It is directed by Cathy Hearn, and produced by Carolyn Somebodyorother ...

While we're on the subject of seniors ... there have been remarks about the Senior Center's new paint job ... purple and light purple ... someone said it was depressing and the color of mourning (well, they are across from the cemetery ... or haven't you noticed?) ... Merriam Webster defines it as "imperial or regal rank or power; high rank or station." We just think it's something new ... and no matter what color they painted it, someone would complain ... in a few weeks, no one will care anyway ... as long as the food's good and they're having fun ....

We love our "Concerned Citizens" who write to us from time to time ... this week it was about how to bring gas prices down ... he says the predictable answers include: 1) impeaching Bush; 2) government regulation; 3) sacking the Mideast ("nuke 'em"); and 4) (our personal fave) converting vehicles to operate on the burning flesh of Democrats and environmentalists (we think he means us) ... but, he feels all these ideas would take tremendous effort, whereas, the simple solution would be to "grease me up with three mugs of frosty barley pop, and persuade me to buy oil stocks."

Given his investment record ("past performance is no guarantee of future results ..."), the bottom would drop out of the investment market within days ... (Columnists' note: advice given in this column is taken at your own risk ....)

Best wishes to Coach Ron McNutt and his wife, Terrie ... they both put a lot into baseball in this area and were rewarded with players going on to college and the majors ... a "home run," no matter how you look at it ....

Maizie thanks Skylar for understanding what she wanted, and Victor for making her pizza "just right," at the Station Grill last week ... it was "out to the edge" ... no inch-wide crusts for her ... yum ....

And their "guitarist supreme" (no, that's not a new "menu item"), Duane "Beans" Souza, told us a story about the new Carson Mall manager, Andrew Hall ... he was in Carson City over Mother's Day, feeling a little glum because he wasn't with his wife or mother ... so he called them both to wish them a "Happy Mother's Day."

He phoned his wife and spoke to her ... then called his mother, only to find she wasn't home. Asking where she was, his dad said, "She went to Carson City on a gambling trip ... she's staying at the Carson Station." Not only was she staying in the same hotel, she was only four doors down from him ... so, in order not to give her a heart attack, he called her and said, "Dad told me where you were ... and if you open your door in a minute, you can see me, too ..." How serendipitous is that?

The Nevada Appeal/CAT 10 Community Awards luncheon was a great success ... honoring many deserving people ... but some visitors to Carson City were surprised to see that His Honor, the Mayor, was treated just like the rest of us ... he was wandering around looking for a seat, too ... "In our town, we'd have to have a 'reserved seat' for the mayor." Not us ... here, he's a "regular guy" ... and that's good ....

The other day, Carolyn saw Andy Harvey, the media guru of the Legislature ... he told her he was looking for a "few good dates" ... so, in order to help him out (providing he doesn't do her in first, that is), she told him she'd tell the ladies out there that he's "single, talented, handsome, successful, etc.," and to write to us at "editor@nevadaappeal.com" and we'll pass the e-mails on to him ... (Maizie knows nothing about this, and is completely innocent ....)

The BAC's "Fizz" was fun, with all it's kidlets performing their hearts out ... as was WNCC's "Camelot" ... colorful and enchanting ... although Pellinore was hard to understand Friday night and the orchestra overwhelmed Arthur's final speech at the end of the play (it's OK ... you'll hear it here ... Tom of Warwick did live to tell the world of chivalry ...). We also got to cast our votes for future musicals ... and thankfully, "Oklahoma," was not one of the choices ... even though we love it, seeing it lebenty-leben times is enough already ....

And to all the new car dealers ... how come all your new cars look alike? We liked it when they had "individuality" ... boxy is blah ....
