Awards honor local marketing excellence

Dave LaPlante, chief executive officer of Twelve Horses North America, has been named "Marketer of the Year" by the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Marketing Association, and Lynn Atcheson has been inducted into the group's Marketing Hall of Fame.

Twelve Horses North America provides Internetbased communications applications and professional services.

Twelve Horses operates in Reno, Salt Lake City, Utah and Dublin, Ireland.

Before joining Twelve Horses, LaPlante was a partner in Aztech Cyberspace, a northern Nevada-based Internet professional services and web marketing company founded in 1995.

He's a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with degrees in finance and economics, and began his career as a marketing executive with Fitzgeralds Group in the gaming industry.

The award is based on professional accomplishments and community involvement.

Atcheson recently announced her candidacy for Washoe County Commission.

Most recently, she was vice president of marketing communications for Washoe Health System.

She served as director of public affairs for Harrah's Reno from 1986 to 1991.

Prior to that, she served as community representative for Sierra Pacific Power Co.

from 1983 to 1986.

She also served as district representative for Congressman Jim Santini from 1974 to 1982.

The Hall of Fame inductee is selected each year by the board of the AMA chapter in northern Nevada Consideration is based on marketing achievements and influence within the region.

The association also awarded three ACE awards, eight certificates of excellence and one award of excellence this month.

The competition was judged by the Southwestern Oregon Chapter of the American Marketing Association.

The highest honor is the ACE Award, which was awarded in the following categories:

* Comprehensive marketing/campaign:

EDAWN's California marketing campaign

* Special event $25,000 and over:

Rose/Glenn Group's GES Exposition Services grand opening NDA mixer

* Publicity/public relations campaign:

Resort at Squaw Creek ongoing PR campaign.

The Award of Excellence was presented in the category of publicity and public relations campaign to Rose/Glenn for its Meadowood Mall holiday 2003 campaign.

Certificates of excellence were awarded in the following categories:

* Print advertising campaign 4-color:

* Publicity and public relations campaign:

Rose/Glenn Group's GES Exposition ongoing PR campaign; Miller Heiman's sales effectiveness study

* Special event $25,000 and over:

* Television advertising campaign $25,000 and over:

* Web marketing:

Intuit's busy season online marketing effort.
