Made in Nevada entices national consumers

A holiday catalog that lists only items made in Nevada is drawing a flurry of interest from consumers nationwide even though it won't be formally released until this week.

The catalog, a project of the Made in Nevada program of the state's Commission on Economic Development, lists all 55 participating companies.

Some of the listings are obvious candidates for holiday giving jams from Country Cupboard Food in Virginia City, sweets from Lake Tahoe Chocolate Factory at Zephyr Cove.

Others are a reach.

Some paints from Gardnerville's Aervoie Industries, maybe? How about a hose reel from Duro Manufacturing in Carson City? And some may require nothing but a little imagination, says Kimberly Elliott, director of the Made in Nevada program.

"A pickup camper top from Caravan Camper Manufacturing out in the driveway with a big bow on top would be really nice," Elliott says.

Holiday shoppers want to see the possibilities.

Consumers from New York,Maine, Virginia and Nebraska are among those who responded to an ad for the catalog published in Nevada Magazine.

"It's been terrific," says Elliott.

The catalog will be available on the Commission for Economic Development Web site (www.expand2Nevada.com) and will be printed on demand for consumers who want a hard copy.

The catalog directs consumers to the companies, where they'll place orders.
