Three arrested for pot possession

A California man and two Fallon residents were jailed early Wednesday morning on suspicion of having large plastic bags of marijuana in a vehicle.

Heath Eugene Chambers, 27, and Seth Robert Wadsworth, 21, both of Fallon, were passengers in a gray or silver passenger car stopped by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper late Tuesday night. The car was being driven by California resident Daniel Dwight Eaton, 37, a police report states.

Police found three bags of marijuana in the car after a traffic stop, according to Trooper Joe Winchester. A half-gallon freezer bag full of suspected pot was found in the trunk, Winchester said, while another similar sized bag was one-quarter full. A sandwich bag was one-third full of the drug, he added.

The total approximate weight of the cache is 286 grams, said Winchester.

Trooper Trent Barnes reports he first spotted the car traveling east on Williams Avenue. The driver turned south on Tedford Lane without using a signal, he said, and eventually pulled into the parking lot of the Bonanza Casino, again without using a directional signal. The trooper wrote he also did not see any brake lights when the car slowed and stopped.

"There was a strong odor of marijuana about the vehicle," the trooper said.

Barnes says Wadsworth sat in the front passenger seat and verbally identified himself. Wadsworth was placed in handcuffs when Barnes learned he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest that had been issued Sept. 8 by Justice of the Peace Dan Ward.

The warrant accuses Wadsworth of using a dumbbell to break a side window of a 1992 Ford pickup in July.

"This subject was found to have a bag of marijuana in his pocket and a glass pipe," Barnes states about searching Wadsworth prior to transporting him to the Churchill County Jail.

All three men submitted to voluntary urine tests and all three tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine and marijuana, police said.

The suspects were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of more than an ounce of marijuana, interstate commerce, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Wadsworth was also charged with the warrant alleging injury to property. Eaton faces an additional charge of driving under the influence of drugs.
