Court date set for three in shooting

Three people charged in a shooting on Brown Street will appear in court Dec. 13.

A hearing for Rigoberto Vega-Aguilar, Israel Ralla and Sharon Gomez is set in Carson City Justice Court to determine if there's enough evidence to go forward to trial.

According to investigators, Vega-Aguilar, 23, allegedly shot Caesar Muñoz, 26, during a gunfight at the corner of Brown Street and Edmonds Drive on Nov. 24.

Muñoz, who is in a medication-induced coma, was listed in stable condition Monday night.

He has not regained consciousness since telling investigators Vega-Aguilar and Ralla, 22, were responsible for shooting him in the abdomen.

Gomez, 26, allegedly helped her boyfriend Vega-Aguilar avoid police and lied to investigators about his whereabouts when they contacted her at Ralla's home Friday evening.

Investigators caught him trying to sneak out a bathroom window about 5 p.m.

Shell casings belonging to a .40-caliber weapon were recovered at the scene of the shooting.

An automatic weapon and several shell casings were recovered from a home on Edmonds Drive where Muñoz ran after being shot, according to the arrest report.

"Based on the evidence at the scene it appears there was a shootout between Caesar Muñoz, Rigoberto Vega and Israel Ralla," Sgt. Bob White said.

Three years ago, Vega-Aguilar pleaded guilty to a gross misdemeanor charge of battery with a deadly weapon and received a year in jail for the shooting of Muñoz's older brother Gabriel.

Prosecutors said they were forced to reduce the charges from attempted murder after Gabriel Muñoz failed to appear to testify.

Gabriel Muñoz is currently serving a prison sentence for shooting at a car carrying Vega-Aguilar's friends.
