Trial slated in lewdness case

A court date has been set for a Reno man who allegedly exposed himself to two female clerks at two Carson City businesses more than a year ago.

Timothy Hovan, 44, pleaded not guilty Monday and will be tried Feb. 15 on two counts of felony open and gross lewdness.

Hovan, a convicted sex offender, allegedly entered a Carson Street bead store Aug. 26, 2003, and pressed up against a female clerk. When she reached into a display counter, she saw he was exposing himself against the glass case, according to a police report.

The woman said that as Hovan left the store, he turned and stated, "You know, when I was little, my baby sitter would dress me in panties."

A few hours later, deputies received a report that Hovan allegedly followed another woman around to clothing racks in another Carson Street business. When he left, the woman followed him outside and got his license plate number, the report states.

Hovan has a prior conviction of indecent exposure in California which requires him to register as a sex offender. Nevada law states because of the prior open-and-gross lewdness conviction, the new charges are felonies.

Last year, Hovan pleaded guilty to two gross-misdemeanor counts for exposing himself to clerks at five Carson Valley stores, also on Aug. 26, 2003.
