Fall wild turkey tags deadline is Sept. 10

By Don Quilici

According to a press release by the Nevada Department of Wildlife, hunters who wish to be included in the upcoming drawing for tags to hunt wild turkeys in Nevada this fall have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 to submit their applications.

Hunters can apply either online at www.huntnevada.com or through the mail.

Copies of the applications can be obtained on the Web site or are available at all NDOW offices and most stores that sell hunting licenses.

Applications must be received at the Wildlife Administrative Services office in Fallon by 5 p.m. to be eligible for the tag drawing.

Available this year are 45 tags for Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area in Lyon County, 16 tags for Moapa Valley in Clark County and 10 tags for Lincoln County. Nonresident hunters are allocated 3 tags for Mason Valley, 2 tags for Moapa Valley and 1 tag for Lincoln County.

There are open quotas for Churchill County and Lyon County, excluding Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area and Lahontan Valley State Recreation Area.

Applicants for these open quota areas are advised that a significant portion of the wild turkey population occurs on private land and permission must be secured from landowners before hunting on private lands.
