DAYTON - An Austin man remained in custody Tuesday after allegedly firing a weapon from his motor home as it was parked on the side of Highway 50 East at Dayton Hill.
David Kent Lyle, 51, is being held in the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of felony discharging a firearm on a public street, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and possession of a firearm under the influence of alcohol.
According to the arrest report, a Central Lyon County Fire Department vehicle pulled in behind Lyle's motor home Friday night to offer assistance in case it was stranded.
When the firefighter approached, he allegedly heard a gunshot and saw a flash and smoke coming from the right side of the motor home. A minute later, he allegedly heard another gunshot.
When deputies arrived about 8:20 p.m., Lyle allegedly exited the vehicle and told officers, "Go ahead and shoot me," according to the report.
Lyle was arrested and taken to jail, where a breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of .137, the report states.
Lyle then allegedly told officers, "Thank you. You guys saved a life tonight."
The incident closed the highway for a short time.
Lyle's bail is set at $1,896.
