7-pound trout on No. 16 fly at East Carson River, Calif.

By Friday the wind began to pick up and by Saturday, we had to close the boat landing because of heavy winds.

Saturday night, it began snowing and by Sunday morning, we had two inches at the lake.

Intake No. 2: Is still under the control of the contractors, so no fishing.

North Lake: A 4-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on Power Bait and nightcrawlers.

It was pretty slow this weekend.

Some action with Power Bait.

The wind was pretty stiff, so no float tubers, which is a great way to fish at North Lake.

Sabrina Lake: A 5-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on a Thomas Buoyant lure.

South Lake: Not a lot of fishing over the weekend because of the weather.

Power Bait and Sierra Gold have been very good and some pretty good action with Salmon eggs.

This week should be good trolling flashers and a nightcrawler or a Needlefish or Rapala lure deep by the Rockslide.

Bishop Creek: The creek is still flowing pretty heavy on the South Fork side.

Salmon eggs and nightcrawlers with a little Power Bait have been good.

Weir Pond: Was productive with green-bodied Mosquitoes, Bead-Headed Prince Nymphs and olive Matuka flies.

• BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said: We had an interesting weekend, here at the store. It was cold and windy all weekend and I have no reports because we had the annual chili cook off and crafts fair, with a couple of bands, on Saturday and Sunday.

Right now (Monday morning), it is cold and windy and we are getting a sprinkle of rain.

• BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jim Reid at Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760) 932-7707 said: Fishing is starting to pick up from shore. Boaters are also doing OK, but not very limits.

• CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said the boat ramp at the Resort is unusable for larger boats but you can still launch small boats from the shoreline.

• EAST CARSON RIVER, CALIF: Brad at the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229) reported fishing has been good and the brought in some nice fish over the weekend.

The water is low and clear.

They planted 700 pounds of rainbow trout, 100 pounds of German brown trout and 100 pounds of Eastern brook trout.

Dan Galloway of California caught a 7-pound, 11-ounce rainbow on a No. 16, Bead Head, Flashback, Pheasant Tail fly.

Bob Warden of Genoa caught a 5-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on a Panther/Martin lure.

A woman angler used a live cricket to nail a 4.5 pound rainbow.

Another angler caught a "Gradn Slam" of a rainbow, a German brown and a brookie.

• WEST CARSON RIVER, CALIF: Dave Kirby said that there is no report for this week due to the chili cook off and crafts fair.

• KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: Jim Reid reported that it is doing good, especially for float tubers with spinners or streamer flies.

• LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Shirley at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): "We had a little wind, yesterday (Sunday).

Fishing has been good for Wipers and Catfish by the spillway at the dam. "

• PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Will open to cutthroat trout fishing on Oct. 1.

• SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) sent in this report:

Redding to Anderson: Water flow is 9,000 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is still great with 15-20 fish days. Great bug hatch in the afternoons. Catching and releasing wild, trophy rainbows, up to 6 pounds. Using Micro Mayfly and Fox's Pupahs.

Red Bluff: King Salmon are here and fishing for Kings is good.

Catching nice bright Kings, 15-30 pounds. Some fish reaching up to 45 pounds already.

Fishing for the Kings will keep getting better and better.

Flatfish (T-50's), and bouncing roe are best bet, both producing big fish.

Water level great, clear and mild weather.

King salmon season will remain open until January 14, 2005.

• LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "It was windy and cold, all weekend.

I had to cancel a charter on Saturday because of the wind.

We went out on Sunday but we were really rocking and rolling. We kept 6 and turned another 6 loose before we had to quit.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

The fishing has been very consistent, but nothing super big.

I troll 250-550 feet deep in the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said It was windy and cold, all weekend.

He is trolling with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

Trolling at Dollar Point at 130-280 feet deep.

Trolling at Cal Neva Point at 120-240 feet deep.

Trolling at Agate Bay at 160-250 feet deep.

• LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said the fishing has been on the slow side.

Catching small Macks (2-3 pounds) and small Kokanee Salmon (5-10 inches).

• LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said that Cave Rock Shelf has been producing mostly smaller Macks.

Jiggers are doing the best.

The Macks are small, running up to about 3-4 pounds.

• TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): No report.

Note: Topaz Lake closes for the 2004 fishing season on Sept. 30. It will re-open on Jan. 1.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Lower Twin: Carey at the Twin Lakes Resort (760-932-7751): No report.

• Upper Twin: Mono Village (760-932-7071): Lures were working well for rainbows last week.

A 7-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on a silver spinner and a 5-pound, 2-ounce rainbow on a Needlefish lure.

Smaller rainbows (1-3 pounds) being caught from shore using silver Kastmaster and Phoebe lures.

Robinson Creek: No report.

• VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Jim Reid reported that the lakes are doing well, as usual, with lures, bait or flies from either shore or float tubes.

• WALKER RIVERS:

East Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid reported fishing is excellent with Nymphs or Streamers. Water flow is 82 CFS. Temps in the low 60's.

West Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid reported it is also very good in the "Canyon." They are catching lots of fish with spinners or bait.

• WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "We had about 4-6 inches of snow between Saturday night and Sunday.

The peaks around us are plenty white right now.

The trout fishing has really picked up with the colder weather.

Bill Phillips of Idaho and his three grand kids were throwing anything back that was under 2 pounds. Their largest rainbow was 4.5 pounds.

The are not taking any more water out of the reservoir, so it should start filling back up, now.

The road construction is about to wind up."
