Joanna Wilson, School Board, District 7

With four years experience on the school board, one as president, I have the knowledge and experience necessary to accomplish our goals. I understand the parameters of school board governing and how to work the system for the benefit of our children.

I have five children, two have graduated from Carson schools, two are current high schoolers and one is a second grader. I have a longtime vested interest in this district. I want to use my knowledge and experience to provide the best educational experience for all Carson City children.

My goals for the district would include:

• Meeting and exceeding the requirements of No Child Left Behind;

• Providing the best possible learning environment for our children;

• Improving communications between the district, the schools and parents, with an emphasis on making sure that all students feel welcome, safe, well-educated and important.

An integral part of meeting my goals will be to participate in the state legislative process, encouraging our elected leaders to put education as a top priority in their budget so that education can become the forefront of our budget discussions instead of what we can cut without harming our students.
