Ethel Dorothy Fischer

A memorial service for Ethel Dorothy Fischer, 92, of Carson City will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 9 at Walton's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fischer died Sept. 19, 2004. She was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Kent, Ohio, to Leroy and Anna Neilson Evans.

She left home at the age of 16 and lived in Cleveland and Chicago before moving to Washoe Valley.

Mrs. Fischer worked at a ball-bearing manufacturing plant during World War II, as a saleswoman for Carson Perre Scott in Chicago and in several hospital cafeterias in Nevada.

She enjoyed playing keno and bingo and the slots at the Nugget. She took playing cards very seriously and played to win.

She was preceded in death by her brothers; husband, Charles; and daughter, Jean Ann Jarc Baldrige.

Among her survivors are three adopted sons Michael Fischer of Oakland, Calif., and David Fischer and Richard Fischer, both of Nevada; grandchildren Matthew Baldrige of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Katherine Baldrige Barnes of Sterling, Colo., Timothy Baldrige of Ames, Iowa, and Michael Baldrige of Clear Lake, Iowa; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund in her name has been established at the Carson City US Bank.
