Tahoe bond bill heard in Ways and Means

Nevada's share of the Lake Tahoe restoration program for the coming two years is $16.8 million.

Former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore organized the Tahoe Presidential Forum in 1997. Out of that series of meetings came a list of projects totaling $900 million split among Nevada, California, the federal government and local governments in the Tahoe Basin.

Assembly Minority Leader Lynn Hettrick, R-Gardnerville, told the Ways and Means Committee on Monday that Nevada's share of that total is $82 million. He said each session lawmakers have approved a specific amount of bond authority for projects on the list. Approval of the $16.8 million bonding in AB458 will leave $10.3 million out of Nevada's $82 million share of the program developed in the Tahoe Presidential Forum for the 2007 Legislature to approve.

State Lands Administrator Pam Wilcox told the committee 39 of those projects have been completed in the past eight years and 14 more are in progress.

The committee took no action on the bill.
