Nevada Senators voted unanimously Tuesday to raise the value of houses which qualify for the senior property-tax rebate and to increase the amount of the rebate.
SB72 was introduced by Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, who said the program hasn't been updated since 1979.
"Even with the property-tax-relief package passed last week, there are still seniors who are struggling to pay their property taxes, as they also cope with the rising costs of prescription drugs, food and housing," she said. "This bill offers real and immediate relief to a larger number of senior citizens."
The bill raises the maximum value of homes eligible for the rebate from $87,500 to $120,000 and the maximum in liquid assets a senior could have from $150,000 to $205,000.
It also increases the amount of the rebate from $500 to $1,000.
The bill goes to the Assembly for consideration.
