CAHI receives grant, money to buy more land

Citizens for Affordable Homes Inc. received a $5,000 grant from Greater Nevada Credit Union, the organization's chief executive officer said.

CAHI also received about $320,000 to acquire land in Carson City for homes.

CEO Ron Trunk said this grant builds a strong bond between it and the local credit union.

"This is the first time Greater Nevada Credit Union had provided support to the organization. We look to develop a long-term relationship with them."

CAHI also received $319,400 from the Western Nevada HOME Consortium to acquire land in Carson City.

The organization has a budget of $1.4 million to acquire land.

This week, CAHI employees painted the organization's logo across 3 feet of asphalt on Kate Peak Road in Dayton. The red-and-gold design features CAHI's logo shaped as a house inside an outline of the state. The design is on the road entering Gold Country Estates; phase one. It will only be up temporarily.

Trunk said the idea was born from a marketing challenge.

"We're attending a conference in Salt Lake City next week, and we were challenged to make a positively outrageous marketing theme," he said.

To view the logo, go left on Retail Road from Highway 50 East, then travel west on Kate Peak Road.

The Carson City-based nonprofit organization is Nevada's leading builder of self-help homes.
