Unique Outdoor Workshop seeks high school students

By Don Quilici

The U.S. Forest Service Carson Ranger District Office is seeking 15-18 year old, high school students for an eight-day, hands-on Outdoor Workshop.

That 13th annual workshop will be conducted at both the Bureau of land Management Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City and in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness Area of California.

The workshop will be held June 21-28, with a deadline for applications of April 29.

A registration fee of $100 is due upon a student's acceptance into the program. To make the workshop cost-free to the student, and to involve their community, students may secure a sponsor to cover the tuition. A list of past sponsors is available on request.

Students will work with natural resource specialists to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the natural world around them and to find out about possible career tracks in the natural resource fields.

For information, call Steve Hale at the U.S. Forest Service Carson Ranger District at 884-8112.
