A Wal-Mart spokesman said Wednesday that it's still uncertain whether the collapse of a 36-by-88-foot wall Monday, that was to be part of the new Wal-Mart, will delay the supercenter's expected winter opening.
Wal-Mart spokesman Eric Berger said the new wall was left unsupported, so when a gust of wind hit it, the entire wall crumbled down. The Wal-Mart is under construction at East College Parkway and Hot Springs Road.
"The contractor temporarily removed braces in order to move scaffolding and the winds caused the walls to collapse," Berger said. "No one was injured. In terms of time delays and damages, we're still evaluating those kinds of things."
Phil Herrington, Carson City chief building official, said Wednesday that the city has asked the structural engineer for a physical elements report.
"What that does is it addresses the soil under the wall and what they can do to reuse footing in the soil, if anything," he said.
The contractor responsible for the wall is Colorado Structures Inc. of El Dorado Hills, Calif. The engineer of record is Johnston Burkholder Associates of Kansas City, Mo.
Officials with Colorado Structures Inc. - Northern California could not be reached for comment.
